What is a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)?
A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is a secure digital key, issued by a Certifying Authority (CA) under the IT Act, 2000. It electronically validates your identity. It is basically your handwritten signature that is saved in electronic form.
When you digitally sign a document, it assures the recipient that it is authentic, hasn't been tampered with (integrity), and originated from you (non-repudiation).
How it Works & Legal Validity
DSCs use Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). Each DSC consists of a public key (shared with others) and a private key (kept secret by the owner, typically stored on a secure USB token).
Legal Validity: DSCs are legally admissible in India under the Information Technology Act, 2000. They provide the same legal standing as handwritten signatures for most electronic documents and online transactions, making digital processes official and binding.
